ſapp launching master’s degrees in artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is becoming the defining technology of our time, with AI jobs expected to grow by 23% through 2028, according to labor market data analyst Lightcast.

To meet the increased workforce demand, the ſapp Department of Computer Science is launching a Master of Science degree in AI that will be available bothin-person Իonline.

The addition will make ſapp one of only a handful of universities offering a master’s degree in AI. The core curriculum will address a breadth of areas central to AI engineering expertise, including machine learning, statistical learning, natural language processing and ethics.

The online degree will launch in fall 2025, with the residential program following in fall 2026.

Bobby Schnabel, external chair of computer science, said ſapp is an ideal choice for those looking to advance their careers in AI.

“Historically, our faculty are pioneers in a lot of the components of generative AI, including areas like natural language processing, deep neural networks, human-computer interaction and reinforcement learning,” he said. “We’re also concerned with issues around ethical use of AI, which makes ſapp a great place to get a well-rounded AI education.”

Both degree options allow students to learn from these pioneers in their fields, and students can choose a modality that best fits their needs.

MS-AI Online on Coursera

Like ſapp’s existing Coursera master’s degrees incomputer science, data science, engineering management Իelectrical engineering, the online master’s in AI will feature more flexible enrollment options, self-paced coursework and performance-based admissions, which means students can earn program admission by performing well in a three-course “pathway.” The online option is great for working professionals who want to pursue their degree while working a full-time job.

Residential MS-AI

The on-campus professional master’s program in AI is a more traditional course-based master’s program, which means students apply for admissions through the graduate school and follow a semester-based course schedule. It is a great option for those who want the benefits of in-person interactions with faculty and fellow students,or who are interested in relocating to the U.S. or the Boulder area. Students will also have the opportunity to complete a capstone project and interact with industry partners.
